OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT The Mattawan Fire Department, station number 2500, is located at the McGillan and Main Street intersection in the Village of Mattawan, Michigan. Since its official creation in 1948, the department has been an all-volunteer department staffed by the residents of Mattawan. The department provides coverage to the village of Mattawan and portions of both Antwerp and Almena townships. The department also provides mutual aid support to adjacent townships and counties when requested and dispatched.
The facility is an 11,000 sqft single-story structure constructed in 1993 and is dedicated to Chief Marlin (Spike) Hubbard for his decades of leadership in the department. The department current has approximately 40 active members, many with decades of experience in both the fire and EMS services.
The engine bay area, approximately 6,000 sqft, has 5 dedicated bays that house the 10 fire and rescue apparatus. It is a fully independent and operational facility with air-charging, hose-drying, and fire gear laundry capability. The firehouse has a large meeting/training room, several administrative offices, and a fully operational kitchen. The facility also has a crew lounge and updated audio-visual system for training and teleconferences.
