In February, Mattawan Fire Department put into service its newest fire truck, 2571, a squad E-one Typhoon class rescuer pumper. This apparatus will replace two fire apparatus that have both provided over 20 years of service to the community. It can bring six fire fighters and over 1,000 gallons of water to an immediate incident.
2571 has the latest state-of-the-art firefighting technology. Many of the major tools are now electric rather than gas-powered for increased reliability and reduced maintenance. It is also equipped with new tools that will increase the department’s ability to provide rapid vehicle extrication on the busy I-94 corridor.
Squad 2571 is now serving as the department front-line apparatus for both fire suppression and vehicle accidents. With a growing community and increasing number of calls annually, we anticipate many years of good service from 2571. We most appreciate the community’s support of its acquisition.
